Peter Eastwood

Professor Peter Eastwood is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at Murdoch University.

Professor Eastwood has previously held positions as the Director of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute and Dean of Research of the College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University and as a NHMRC Senior Research Fellow at the West Australian Sleep Disorders Research Institute and the Department of Pulmonary Physiology and Sleep Medicine.  He was the Founding Director of the Centre for Sleep Science at UWA.  He is the Asia/Australia representative on the World Sleep Council and is a past president of the Australasian Sleep Association.  Peter has extensive research accomplishments and has published over 200 research papers including original research studies, review articles, book chapters, editorials and letters.

Peter’s research has included the development of novel tools to image and measure the human upper airway, the application of general anaesthesia to examine upper airway collapsibility, the use of nerve stimulation to treat obstructive sleep apnoea and the epidemiology of sleep disorders.  He also conducts research aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Lung Disease. These multidisciplinary activities have been based in both the hospital and university settings and have attracted in excess of $20 million dollars in competitive grant funding.

Peter has supervised and continues to supervise many postdoctoral fellows, and PhD, Masters and Honours students.
