Measurement of Sleep for Dentists

This course will refine or develop practical skills for those in the dental field via online learning and instructional video and present practical concepts including; common technologies used for measuring sleep (including polysomnography), recognition and maintenance of sleep signals, scoring normal and abnormal sleep patterns and the interpretation of data obtained from sleep studies (polysomnography).

 This course has been designed to complement and develop the learners understanding and clinical skills required to practise in the area of dental sleep medicine in consultation with qualified medical practitioners.

Course structure

This course consists of 6 modules and a final exam. Each module includes approximately 5 lectures of duration ranging from 20-60 mins followed by a 30-minute quiz.

  1. Data management, confidentiality & ethics
  2. Measuring Biopotentials
  3. Performing polysomnography
  4. Sleep scoring and analysis
  5. Sleep study analysis – advanced competencies
  6. Sleep study reports and how to interpret them

This course is aimed at:

Dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians/prosthetists, oral health therapist, orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, oral medicine specialists.

Course entry prerequisites

Those with a dental degree will find this course easier than those without, but anyone with training in any aspect of dentistry, orthodontics or oral medicine can take this course.
